Sustainable tourism and fishing will likely be key economic factors in Gaza's reconstruction. Therefore the health of the maritime  and coastal dune habitats will play a critical role in Gaza's future development. Key participants in these interlinked ecologies are the coastal vermetid reefs which are disappearing due to: human waste pollution, fertilizer runoff, over-fishing, climate change, and apartheid.
